Occupational Health Nursing Informatics: Mapping Hearing Health Outcomes to the Omaha System

چکیده
Algorithm development and transformation: Experts in nursing informatics and occupational health nursing created algorithms based on definitions of Omaha System ratings and existing clinical and research data from firefighters were transformed using the algorithms. • Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) : One of most prevalent occupational injuries. • There are limited data on hearing ability of workers. • Data are needed to describe the extent of NIHL and to measure outcomes of hearing loss prevention programs. • Standardized representation in the electronic health record (EHR) could fill this gap.

BACKGROUND The Omaha System is a standardized interface terminology that is used extensively by public health nurses in community settings to document interventions and client outcomes. Researchers using Omaha System data to analyze the effectiveness of interventions have typically calculated p-values to determine whether significant client changes occurred between admission and discharge. Howe...
متن کاملThe Computerized OMAHA System in Microsoft Office Excel
The OMAHA System was adopted as the documentation system in an interventional study. To systematically record client care and facilitate data analysis, two Office Excel files were developed. The first Excel file (File A) was designed to record problems, care procedure, and outcomes for individual clients according to the OMAHA System. It was used by the intervention nurses in the study. The sec...
متن کاملToward a Uniform Nursing Terminology: Mapping ICNP and the Omaha System
CONCLUSIONS At least 12 standardized terminologies represent the domain of nursing knowledge; each having unique, implicit ontologies that describe nursing diagnoses, interventions, and /or outcomes. The need for interoperability across systems supports the development of a uniform blended ontology, based on common semantic interpretation. To attain the goals of data reuse and interoperability,...
